Things you'd completely forgotten...
Public phone boxes, the proper red ones - the lists of area dialling codes on the inside window, only you could never use them, because the done thing was to stub cigarettes out all over the codes making them unreadable...

I used to work with a woman who had previously had the job of counting the coins from payphones. She said they were routinely covered in piss from people pissing into the coin slot. They were usually high up, so it took some effort to get it in there.

I've got a red telephone box 3 houses down for me, that the village has adopted for £1 and it's now used as a free library (apparently quite a lot do this now).

Don't know for sure, I've never had the urge to borrow any as I don't have time to read books.

From walking past, maybe up to 100?

Re: Things you'd completely forgotten...
Vexed...was forgotten, only recalled when I saw the stubbed out dialling code numbers on some spell binding 15 minute tales of the unexpected type thing on Talking Pictures.

It blew me away.

I think press A was to connect your call and B was to get your money back?

Spoke to an old boy the other day who used to go round stuffing tissue in the coin return slots and return a week later and pocket all the change
